"When you're inspired, you dream higher"
I am extremely thankful to finally see my dreams come to a reality. After meeting and working with so many adult students in Higher Education, who all shared similar stories about losing their path after High School or never really having a path, I decided that I wanted to make a difference, somehow, in the life of High School students, in their preparedness after completing High School, and in the decisions that they will make. As the Community Developer, I had the opportunity to meet several amazing community leaders who inspired me in various ways to make this dream come true. I found passionate mentors willing to help guide me, successful individuals looking to pay it forward, and great friends invested in wanting to join me in making a difference in the life of young adults. The dream began in 2015 and with the help of many, it became a reality in 2016.
My professional background includes 9+ years of business development, marketing, and management. I was born in Guatemala City, and later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana at the age of 12 where I served as Miss Guatemala of New Orleans in 2002 and was recognized with the City of New Orleans Proclamation in 2003. In 2005, I relocated to Houston, TX where I continued to work with Nextel Communications franchises and later joined University of Phoenix. In 2015 I was honored with the University of Phoenix President’s Award and in 2016 with the DiversityFIRST Award by the Texas Diversity Council. In 2016, I joined the University of Houston-Victoria in Katy as their Sr. Director of Enrollment Management & External Affairs where I work students looking to complete a Bachelor's degree or pursue a Master's degree. I am also a 2016 graduate of the inaugural class of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Academy.
In 2006 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing with a minor in Management from the University of New Orleans. I also completed an Master in Business Administration in 2010 and a Master in Management with a concentration in Human Resources Management in 2012 from the University of Phoenix.
I currently serve on the board for the National Association of Women MBAs - Houston Professional Chapter as the Director of Marketing and Communications. I co-chair the Education Committee for the Texas Diversity Council and I also serve as a volunteer ambassador for the Greater Houston Partnership. I enjoy volunteering at the Krause Children’s House and the Fort Bend Women’s Shelter. I am passionate about diversity and education and I often look for opportunities to contribute to the growth of professional women in leadership roles by mentoring young women and by being an active member of my community.
